Chiriquí, a province in western Panama, offers a striking variety of landscapes, from highland cloud forests to golden Pacific beaches. Bordered by Costa Rica to the west, it’s known for its rich agriculture, coffee plantations, and impressive volcano views. The capital city, David, serves as the main hub for travelers, but many of the region’s most memorable experiences are found in its rural towns, mountain valleys, and coastal areas. Whether standing at the top of Volcán Barú or walking through a traditional market, Chiriquí reveals itself through everyday moments that feel both grounded and extraordinary.

One of the region’s most iconic landmarks is Volcán Barú, the highest point in Panama at 3,475 meters. On clear mornings, hikers who reach the summit can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea at the same time, a rare and breathtaking sight. Surrounding the volcano is a network of cloud forests where trails lead past waterfalls and lookout points filled with birdsong. Boquete, a town nestled in these highlands, has become a favorite destination for its cool climate, coffee farms, and outdoor adventures. Visitors often join guided tours to learn how some of the world’s finest Geisha coffee is grown, harvested, and roasted here.

For those drawn to the coast, the Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park offers an entirely different experience. This protected area includes mangroves, coral reefs, and more than 20 islands. Boat trips depart from Boca Chica, a quiet fishing village, and lead to remote beaches where humpback whales can be seen during migration season. Snorkeling reveals clear waters filled with tropical fish, while kayakers can explore calm channels between mangrove forests. The blend of mountains and coastline makes it possible to go from a cool highland morning to a warm Pacific sunset in a single day.
